How do I get involved?

Please see our 'Get Involved' page!

Where in Coventry are you based?

From April til September our training nights are held at Bishop Ullathorne School, Leasowes Avenue, Coventry, CV3 6BH. During the winter months we are based at the Alan Higgs Centre, Allard Way, Coventry, CV3 1HW.

When do you play?

Outdoors we play Wednesday evenings from 6pm until dusk between April and September. Indoors are generally every couple of weeks on Sunday evenings, 18.00 - 20.00.

Do you play indoor or outdoor?

Following the success of our first indoor softball during winter 21/22 we are pleased to say we now play both! Indoor is currently training only and has not progressed to tournament play.

Do you play in the rain?

Mostly! A decision will be made by the club committee whether it is safe to play and updates will be posted on social media / Whatsapp should training need to be cancelled. Note for Lightening we operate a 30 minute since last strike policy.

Do you play Slowpitch or Fastpitch softball?

We play slowpitch! It's the most popular and inclusive version of softball in the UK.

What happens at training?

A typical training night consists of a warm-up, throwing progression / practice, a couple of training drills with a game to finish.

What equipment do I need?

Sturdy shoes with good grip and suitable sports clothing. Football boots are permitted. If you have your own glove and bat, that's great, bring them along! If you are completely new to the sport then don't worry, we have kit you can use!

I have never played before, is this a problem?

No! We welcome players of all abilities and experience. Our experienced players will help to guide you and we will tailor drills where required.

Do you need to be really fit to play?

No! Softball is perfect for anyone who wants to spend more time outside participating in some fun and friendly sport. Everyone is welcome at Coventry Blitz!

How much does it cost?

If you're joining us in our outdoor season the first two sessions are free! Subsequent weeks cost just £3. We also have a range of membership options available including pay-as-you-go. Base membership costs £20 and covers a full years play. 22/23 indoor prices are yet to be confirmed and they'll also be offers for new & existing players.

Are there any age requirements?

We currently welcome players 16+ with no upper age limit! Parental permission forms are required for each under 18 player to participate in softball activities and can be downloaded here. Copies of completed forms should be sent to BSUK (welfare@bsuk.com) to keep on file.

Are you LGBTQ+ Friendly?

Absolutely! We provide a safe and supportive environment to play so that everyone feels included with Blitz! We were also one of the 3 inaugral teams to play in the Birmingham Pride in Softball tournament in 2021 (and helped with sourcing a venue!). A 2016 survey by BaseballSoftballUK suggested that 14% of softball players identify as LGBTQ+, compared to roughly 8% of the population as a whole. You can read more about BSUK and LGBTQ+ here.

Why do you ask for gender on your registration form?

This is to assist with tournament scheduling and field positioning / batting line-up only as teams are required to be evenly balanced.
